Tenim is a site located 6 km away from the Sacred Mosque, situated within the sacred precincts from the direction of Medina. During the Farewell Pilgrimage, Hz. Aisha (RA) accompanied Prophet Muhammad (SAW) in performing Hajj. However, due to her menstrual cycle, she was unable to undertake Umrah (lesser pilgrimage) during that time. Expressing her disappointment as they were about to return to Medina, she conveyed her regret to the Prophet (SAW), saying, “O Messenger of Allah! People complete both Hajj and Umrah, while I am deprived of performing Umrah.”
In response, Prophet Muhammad (SAW) directed her and her brother Abdurrahman (RA) to proceed to Tenim for the performance of Umrah. There, they entered the state of Ihram (the sacred state for pilgrimage) and engaged in a two-unit Ihram prayer. The mosque erected at this location to commemorate this event is named “Masjid al-Aisha,” in honor of Hz. Aisha.
